How to Become a Benevolent Dictator

A friend once said, "I don’t want to be President, but I would be happy as a benevolent dictator of my own private country."  Just a crazy dream?  Not really.  For most of us it is much closer than we realize.  Nearly all of us, regardless of our station or position, have those around us who are looking for direction and stability.  When we dictate policy, we are a dictator.  Wheather or not we are benevolent or totalitarian depends on our attitude as well as our approach.

Have you ever noticed how often the world is run by the dysfunctional?  There are workaholics, ignoring their spouses and families and expecting you to do the same.  Temper toting tyrants terrorizing the workforce, threatening them with dismissal if demands are not met.  Amoral manipulators promising or compromising anything of value to further their personal careers.  Violent, insensitive or whining spouses who control their environments like totalitarian dictators.

Too many leaders today, fall into the trap of trying to teach positive principles using negative techniques, incorporating incorrect methods which may bring short term results, but eventually breeds failure.

The Mild Mannered Manager is the leader unruffled by the surprises in life, the one who stays calm in the face of disaster because their actions are based upon true and correct principles that will weather the storms of life.  People are drawn to them because they are a solid anchor amid the shifting sands of compromise.  They infuse confidence, stability and hope into the lives of those they touch.  Our mission is to enable you to become such a leader.

  • A leader is one who learns the proper way to act in any circumstance they might find themselves in.  A leader studies, observes and distills information from the world around them.

  •
  • A leader learns self-control. No man can govern others until he first learns to govern himself.  A first step in self-control, it to learn to obey.  The father of Hannibal of Carthage said, "Hannibal will be the greatest leader, because he, of all my men, knows how to obey."

  •
  • A leader learns to apologize, whether they are right or wrong is immaterial.  They don’t let their own pride prevent them from achieving their objectives.  There are too many variables you can’t change, it is pointless to foster one you can change.

  •
  • A leader learns that obedience should never crush compassion, nor should compassion ever overthrow obedience.  A leader must be firm, but also friendly and fair.

  •
  • A leader learns to see the end from the beginning.  When you don’t know where you are going, it is difficult to recognize the place when you get there.

  •
  • A leader, by definition, proceeds.  How can your people follow you if you aren't ahead of them.  One trick to leading, is to stay at least one step ahead of them.

I guarantee that if you implemented these principles, along with the others presented in the seminar, you will see positive changes in your life, including:

  • a better work environment,
  • happier employees,
  • higher productivity and
  • a greater quality of life.
