2.  ANSWER:
Hi David
I have a copy of both books.  Marguerite Robinson is living, age 93, and her address is PO Box 713, LaVerkin, UT 84745.  She is on my mailing list for the Mefford Memories newsletter.  Covers all variations of spellings, ert, erd, ord, and mifford.  Betty Lou Mefford passed away 19 Sep 1992 in Cleveland, O H.  She was in the process of writing a book about the descendants of Andreas or his son Johannes.  All material was lost in a fire at her home after her death.

ANSWER:
Hi Dee and Vicki,
I am Jerry Mefford.  My dad, Albert Leet Mefford, b. June 8, 1926, d. Mar., 1979, was born in Laddonia, MO.  We resided most of my life in Louisiana, MO (Pike County).  My grandfather was Albert Spence Mefford, b. 1908~1910 d. 1982, and he resided mostly around rural Mexico/Auxvasse, MO from about 1950 until his death.  Prior to that I'm not sure.  I think that he was from Kentucky, along with my gr. grandfather, but do not know his first name at this time.  My grandmother's maiden name was Waller.  Don't know if that makes any connections with any of you or your relatives, but if so, let me know.
Thanks!

She lived in Pontiac Mo. in Ozark Co.  Have any idea who she might of been?
Ruby McDonald VanMeter   Jubaltwo@aol.com

ANSWER:
Hello Ruby,
My name is Jerry Spencer Mefford.  I just discovered the mefford.org website.  My parents, Albert & Betty Mefford are now deceased, but I grew up in Louisiana, MO, which is in Pike County.  I don't have a lot of history at this time on my family, but I do know that my father, Albert Leet Mefford was born June 8, 1926, somewhere I believe around Laddonia MO.  My grandfather, Albert Spencer Mefford, I've been told I think was born in Kentucky in around 1908-1910, but I cannot be sure of that.  To my knowledge, he had no brothers.  I never realized that there were other Meffords that had settled in central and eastern Missouri.  My great grandfather Mefford's name I do not remember, but am in the process of finding.

I seem to remember as a child, someone speaking of an "Aunt Iva".  I don't know where she lived exactly, but it seemed as if it were somewhere in central Missouri.  Could this be your Iva Mefford Satterfield?  I too want to know where my roots are and have started some preliminary digging around.  (Please excuse the "pun") I'm finding that I have a "Family History Center" located in the city where I teach, so I plan to make a trip there soon to find some more history. Maybe with the exchange of information, we can help each other find more about our predecessors. I look forward to hearing from you, Pat, or David about our family. Thanks.

Mary L. Matter     MLMATTER@AOL.COM

ANSWER:
I live in Clark Co., Ohio. I have done research on Gasper Mefford. John D. was a son of Gasper.  Gasper was given land here in Clark Co. and part of the land grant act.  I have copies of the deed to Gasper from the President and the deed where John D.  and his wife Naomi, George K. and his wife Elizabeth, and Andrew H. Mefford sold the land to James Donnell  on March 7, 1832.

The actual deed to Gasper was not filed until after the sale in 1832.  It was discovered until years later that Ohio was not  a true state, because of a flaw in the statehood in 1803.  When it was discovered, Congress had to act, and Ohio was granted its statehood back to 1803.  President Woodrow Wilson granted and issued the land in 1919.

Somewhere I have the death information on Gasper.  If you are interested in any other information that I may be able to help you with e-mail me.  I didn't mention that my maiden name is Mefford. I was born in California, but my family tree comes back to Kentucky and most likely Virginia.

24.  QUESTION:
I just recently came across your homepage in my search for one of my relatives. I was browsing the 1997 Putnam County, Indiana queries and ran across a query by a Paul Cox. He was looking for info on a Jacob Cox who left Indiana in 1854 and migrated to Iowa. Since I'm descendent of Issac Cox, Jacob's brother, I responded to the query. The next day I was disappointed to find that the email was returned to me. I can only guess that the email address paulcox@netins.net is no longer valid. Is there any chance that you may have any info regarding the query by Paul Cox. Is there a updated query board for Putnam County, Indiana? Searching the Cox surname, at times, has been like finding a needle in a haystack and this is the first time I have run across anyone searching the same line.

49. QUESTION:
Several online MEFFORD genealogies show that the wife of James A. MEFFORD of Bracken Co. KY and later of Iowa was married to Mary KING. One lists her as Mary MCDONALD. I have their marriage bond from Bracken Co. KY in 1837 which shows that her name was Mary McDANIEL. The bond was signed by John MCDANIEL. I believe that she was the daughter of John and Polly/Mary (SELLERS) MCDANIEL of Bracken Co. KY. (Note that the surname was sometimes recorded as MCDONALD, but John and his father always wrote "MCDANIEL.") I am descended from James William MCDANIEL, a son of John and Polly/Mary (SELLERS) MCDANIEL, and his wife, Sarah KING. Since I have both surnames (MCDANIEL/MCDONALD and KING), I have no particular interest in disproving that Mary who married James MEFFORD was a MCDANIEL and not a KING, but I would be interested in any PROOF used to support the KING surname. I would ask anyone in possession of proof to please share it with me/others. Thanks.

59. QUESTION:
My name is Tom Mefford (Wiley Thomas ) I too was interested in the Mefford Coat of Arms but have not had any luck finding one. Were you able to contact the person who was offering it? I wonder if one really exists.
Tom Mefford CRAZYWT@aol.com

ANSWER:
I haven't as yet been able to uncover a Coat of Arms for the Mefford Family. I doubt one exists because as research points out now, in Germany our Johannes Heinrich Meffert was a blacksmith and his son, Johanne Meffert was a Schoolmaster. It was the Nobility that had Coats of Arms. I did create a family motto that I believe epitomises the Mefferts. It is in French because it appears that 300 years ago we were living in France or on the French/German border. Non maitre, mais Dieu. Translated means, No master, but God.
